The steelhead is a sea-run Rainbow Trout usually returning to freshwater to spawn after two to three years at sea - rainbow trout and steelhead trout are the same species. The fish are often called Salmon Trout. Steelhead can grow quite large and are a powerful fish to control with a fly rod. They are best caught with a range of heavy nymphs; streamer flies one of the most successful of Stu's designs for catching steelhead are Stu's Fluro Fish Eggs.
