They are native to Western and North America. Cutthroat Trout were given the species name Clarkii in honor of William Clark, who co-led the Lewis and Clark expedition of 1804–1806. Cutthroat Trout are quite aggressive feeders, especially in the height of summer when insects fall onto the surface of the water. Large type hopper, cicada type flies normally get a reaction from these colorful trout with will strike hard and fast.
